A promotional/demonstration video has found its way to Google + showing the Motorola Moto X in action.
Verizon’s upcoming Motorola Droid MAXX will boast an outstanding 48 hours of ‘worry-free’ battery life, effectively doubling the current standard.
Either today or yesterday, depending on where you are, marks the 40th birthday of the cell phone. On the 3rd of April 1973 Motorola Engineer Martin Cooper made the first successful public call from a cell phone, officially kicking off what was not known then, but clear as day in hindsight, one of the many technological revolutions that would change the world. In case you were wondering, the recipient of Cooper’s inaugural call was Joe Engel, his direct competitor and head of research at Bell Labs, thus making it one of the bigger “in your face” jabs in tech history.
Motorola has announced three new smartphones for the US: The Motorola Droid RAZR HD, the Droid RAZR Maxx HD and the RAZR M 4G LTE. While we’d like to see a more compact naming scheme, all three phones are looking pretty good right now, even if they don’t come running Jelly Bean out of the box.
Within hours of one another today both the EU and US regulatory commissions gave Google a big thumbs-up for its acquisition of Motorola Mobility, leaving only China, Israel and Taiwan to make up their minds. It’s a huge win for Google in the Patent Wars, as Motorola Mobility owns a huge number of patents that can now be absorbed in to Google’s arsenal.
The Motorola MOTOLUXE has been making an appearance at CES in Vegas. Running Android Gingerbread 2.3.7, the MOTOLUXE seems to be a low high-end or high mid-range device coming soon from Motorola. There’s an 8MP camera, a front-facing VGA camera, a 4.0 inch 854x480 display and the Motoswitch 2.0 user interface (UI). The whole package has a profile of under 10mm, so it should fit nicely in the pocket.
The Motorola DEFY line of smartphones has been one of Moto’s more popular enterprises in recent years. DEFY handsets are functional, relatively cheap and extremely resilient. Many consumers have been attracted to the idea of a phone that is water, impact, dust and temperature resistant, as it seems that all too many smartphones end up in the repair shop these days from just minor bumps and bruises.
The Motorola RAZR is basically the European version of Motora's new DROID RAZR handset. It's a high end Android 2.3.5 device that takes a slightly different approach to physical design that some of the handsets we’ve previously seen from Motorola. Its sharp edges with just slightly contoured corners make for a more intriguing first impression than a device like the Motorola Atrix, but where the RAZR truly sets itself aesthetically apart is with its profile.
Earlier this week we did a post about how HTC could be the first manufacturer with a quad-core handset in reference to leaked information about the HTC Edge. Now information is starting to hit the web about quad-core research being conducted by LG, Samsung and Motorola, all of whom are trying to be the first on the market with the next gen of super-phones.
Motorola has announced its next 2 tablets: the Motorola Xoom 2 and Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition. Both tablets are looking at a mid-November release in the UK and we hope on a similar date in the rest of the world. Both 10.1 inch Motorola Xoom 2 and 8.2 inch Xoom 2 Media Edition seem to sport the kind of specs one would expect from a new Xoom tablet. A super-fast, but not revolutionary dual-core 1.2GHz CPU will be available on both devices, as will 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Both tablets also reportedly sport “HD” displays, which we’re guessing is Motorola’s way of saying Honeycomb’s familiar 1280 x 800 resolution, but it could be higher.
Hundreds of cell phone plans unpacked. All the facts. No surprises.
