5G coverage now reaches more than 70% of Canadians, and expansion continues each year as carriers roll out faster networks across the country. Wireless providers—including Bell Canada, Rogers Communications, Telus, Freedom Mobile, Fizz Mobile, Videotron, Eastlink, and SaskTel—continue expanding 5G infrastructure across urban and suburban markets.
As 5G implementation in Canada matures, more Canadians can access faster mobile speeds, lower latency, and improved network capacity compared to older 4G LTE networks.
In this guide, we’ll explain where 5G services are available in Canada, which carriers provide the best connectivity, and how to choose the best 5G plan for your budget.
Where is 5G available in Canada?
The major Canadian carriers offer 5G service across most provinces, although availability varies depending on population density and infrastructure investment.

5G coverage maps in Canada
5G is available in every province in Canada except for Nunavut, the Northwest Territories, and Yukon. Several Canadian wireless carriers provide 5G and continue to expand their networks.
Bell, Rogers, and Telus provide the best 5G coverage in Canada, with 5G networks that reach 70% of Canadians.
Rogers
Rogers offers 5G throughout much of the country and offers 5G+, a purportedly even faster connection, in most urban centres.
During hands-on time with Rogers, I experienced stable, consistent 5G signals throughout Toronto's downtown core. When travelling to smaller cities in Ontario, such as Kitchener, Hamilton, and Burlington, the carrier's 5G service remained strong, with the exception of small pockets in between. I was able to consistently scroll through TikTok, make calls and text without any notable issues. Coverage remained strong enough that I was able to stream a few episodes of The Rehearsal on Crave during travel.
Bell
Bell's 5G network looks markedly similar to Rogers', including 5G+ availability in major cities.
While reviewing Bell's 5G services, I experienced stable and surprisingly fast 5G speeds. In Southern Ontario, the carrier's 5G+ signal is carried from Toronto to Mississauga and surprisingly further west towards London. Bell's 4G LTE services, however, are far more accessible. East of Toronto, 4G LTE is widely available and common towards Ottawa and Montreal.
Telus
Telus' 5G coverage is similar to that of its Big Three counterparts, though it doesn't offer 5G+. Several regional carriers also provide 5G coverage, with Videotron in Quebec, SaskTel in Saskatchewan, and Eastlink in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
Reflecting on my hands-on time with Telus, the carrier has a 5G footprint very comparable to Bell's. Telus' 5G and 5G+ networks are widely available in Ontario's metro cities, such as Toronto, Mississauga, and Hamilton. Throughout my trips in Ontario while testing Telus' services, I was able to catch the 5G+ network all the way out to Kitchener. Intermittently, the signal dipped in more rural pockets, where the 4G LTE network serves a large community of Canadians.
Freedom Mobile and other MVNOs
5G is continuing to grow, too. Freedom Mobile offers 5G in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec, with plans to expand further. SaskTel also provides 5G services throughout Saskatchewan.
Videotron, a Quebec-based carrier, has core services available in Quebec with coast-to-coast coverage. Fizz Mobile, owned by Videotron, has newly added 5G services in Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, and British Columbia.
5G carriers in Canada and their networks
Canada is home to several flanker brands owned by the Big Three and operated on their respective networks. Flanker brands offer cheaper plans and prepaid options, competing for students, seniors, and budget-minded consumers who don’t need the premium data or higher prices of Bell, Rogers, and Telus.
Canadian Flanker Brands
| Flanker | Network | Speeds |
|---|---|---|
| Virgin Plus | Bell | 4G LTE |
| Fido | Rogers | 4G LTE |
| Koodo Mobile | Telus | 5G, 4G LTE |
| Lucky Mobile | Bell | 4G LTE |
| Chatr | Rogers | 4G LTE |
| Public Mobile | Telus | 5G, 4G LTE |

Compare 5G carriers and phone plans
Buying a 5G-capable phone doesn’t automatically unlock 5G speeds. To access the lightning-fast speeds and reliable connectivity of a 5G network, you need to purchase a 5G phone plan. Before you activate, read the fine print: Just because a carrier operates a 5G network doesn’t mean your particular plan is connected to it.
