Motorola has announced its next 2 tablets: the Motorola Xoom 2 and Motorola Xoom 2 Media Edition. Both tablets are looking at a mid-November release in the UK and we hope on a similar date in the rest of the world.
Both 10.1 inch Motorola Xoom 2 and 8.2 inch Xoom 2 Media Edition seem to sport the kind of specs one would expect from a new Xoom tablet. A super-fast, but not revolutionary dual-core 1.2GHz CPU will be available on both devices, as will 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Both tablets also reportedly sport “HD” displays, which we’re guessing is Motorola’s way of saying Honeycomb’s familiar 1280 x 800 resolution, but it could be higher.
The reason we’re guessing this is because the Motorola Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition both come running on Android Honeycomb 3.2 out of the box and not on Ice Cream Sandwich. We didn’t really expect either tablet to be running ICS just yet, but we’re still a little disappointed nonetheless.
Motorola has taken a slightly different approach to physical design with its new tablets as well. Some rather unique curved corners are immediately noticeable when viewing the devices, as is the new profile which has a much more gradual slope from the outer rim in to the center, assumedly to improve grip and hand-held comfort.
As yet there’s no word on pricing, but we can confirm that in the UK the Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition will be available from at least PC World, Dixons and Carphone warehouse, including other vendors as well.
