Sony Ericsson showed off a lot of new handsets at the Mobile World Conference (MWC) recently and among them was the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo.
The Xperia Neo is an Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) handset with a 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM. Basically this device’s hardware doesn’t wow us, but it’s not a massive disappointment either. The noticeable lack of a dual-core processor is a downside, but in no way a crippling one.
Despite this the phone is still very responsive, especially when coupled with Sony Ericsson’s UI updates. The 3.7” LED screen also just looks fantastic with its bright colours and true blacks.
The form factor is a little different from what we’ve come to expect from Sony Ericsson. The semi-rounded corners and just overall look of the phone are refreshing, especially when considering the Neo comes in 3 colours – Blue Gradient, Silver and Red.
The 8MP camera is a nice feature, but is looking to be standard in the next generation of smartphones, as are the LED flash and front-facing camera.
Basically the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo looks to be a solid next-gen smartphone that focuses on nailing the basics, rather than adding any bells and whistles. We’re certainly looking forward to getting our hands on one and giving in a whirl in the near future.
This is a good sign for Sony Ericsson, as it has tended to lag slightly behind some of the competition in recent times. If the popular phone manufacturer can keep on putting out devices like this then it should be no time at all before we start to see Sony Ericsson grabbing a stronger position in the smartphone market.
