Google announced the Pixel 7a at their 2023 I/O event, confirming weeks of rumours about the release of the budget version of its popular Pixel 7 smartphone. The phone is now available for $599 through the Google Store and is available through other retailers starting May 11.
The Pixel 7a has many of the same features as its more expensive predecessor, with impressive cameras, a Google Tensor G2 processor, and a long-lasting battery. The key difference is price: the Pixel 7a allows Canadians to experience one of the best Android models on the market for an affordable $599.

Pixel 7a release date
Google unveiled the Pixel 7a at the I/O 2023 event and simultaneously released it in the Google Store. The smartphone will be available through other retailers starting on May 11.
Pixel 7a price
The Pixel 7a is available in Canada from the Google Store for $599 and includes a free pair of Pixel Buds A-Series or 50% off a pair of Pixel Buds Pro.
Pixel 7a cameras
Google claims the Pixel 7a has the “highest-rated camera in its class.” After looking through the specs, we can see why. The Pixel 7a has impressive cameras that rival its more expensive cousin, the Pixel 7. The rear cameras have the capacity to take sharper pictures (at 64MP and 13MP) and have wider fields of view (80-degrees and 120-degrees).
Google also touted its many photo-editing features, including Photo Unblur, Magic Eraser, Real Tone, and Face Unblur, which allow you to correct and perfect sloppy photography seconds after you’ve snapped it. The cameras’ video functions also look solid, with 4K video, image stabilisation, and noise reduction.
Pixel 7a design and display
The Pixel 7a is slightly smaller than the Pixel 7, with a 6.1-inch display compared to the Pixel 7’s 6.3-inch screen. If you’re worried about protecting that display, you’re in luck: the phone has scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and a fingerprint-resistant coating.
It’s available in four different colours: Sea, Charcoal, Snow, and Coral, though that last one is only available through the Google Store. In terms of appearance, the 7a looks like a near-clone of the Pixel 7, matching its sleek design while providing some beautiful new colours.
