Eric Schmidt, former CEO of Google and now Executive Chairman seems to have accidentally let slip that we can expect the Android Ice Cream Sandwich update in either October or November. During an extremely long interview Eric said:
“We have a new operating system, internally known as Ice Cream Sandwich for some reason, which is being released in October – November, which everyone’s really excited about.”
We find Eric Schmidt’s confusion over Google’s questionable choice of moniker for its latest OS brain child mildly amusing, if not totally understandable. However, we’re also pretty excited that, while we’ve expected Ice Cream Sandwich to see a release some time round October for a while now, we finally have something a bit more solid to work with.
Our guess would be nearer to the end of October or beginning of November, as it just seems to fit in with what we’ve been hearing about other major OS releases, as well as the timeframe in which we’re hoping to see the Google Nexus Prime – the highly rumoured over next Google branded smartphone that is currently in development by Samsung.
It seems like the last few months of 2011 are going to be pretty exciting in the tech industry. We have the iOS5 and iCloud release, as well as what everyone is expecting to be the release of the iPhone 5. Windows Phone Mango is rumoured to be seeing the light of day some time round October and now we finally have some reliable information regarded the release of Android Ice Cream Sandwich around the same time.
We’ll do our best to keep you up to date about all of this juicy stuff until then, but it looks like the last part of 2011 is certainly going to have our work cut out for us.
