Ever since the Google Android 2.3.4 update rolled out to the Nexus S many users have found that their voice search option has been underperforming. Android Gingerbread 2.3.6 is a patch aimed to fix just exactly that as well as… other stuff they haven’t told anyone about yet.
We can assume a few minor speed upgrades or maybe even some battery maintenance software will come along with 2.3.6 but it’s hard to know for sure if Google would have bothered. With Android Ice Cream Sandwich right around the corner Google may have decided that its users could stand to wait just a bit longer for improvements in that department.
However, there have been numerous reports from users who have already downloaded Android 2.3.6 that the new patch is breaking WiFi and USB tethering for every device on which it is installed.
So there you have it. Android 2.3.6: fixes voice search but apparently breaks tethering for both USB and WiFi, which would seem to mean it currently does more harm than good.
We’ll keep you posted on this tethering issue but, for now, download 2.3.6 at your own peril.
