The new FireFox mobile OS has a powerful new ally, with Google publishing its first app on the platform.
An official YouTube app is now available for FireFox phones, joining official apps from both Facebook and Twitter in the Firefox Marketplace. According to the Marketplace's own count, there are now over 2,100 apps available to download on Firefox phones.
The addition of an official YouTube app is a boon for the fledgling smartphone operating system, though not a surprising move from Google, whose strategy has always been to be on as many platforms as possible.
The FireFox OS has launched to a few markets in both Europe and Latin America, with an early focus on low-cost handsets. Firefox creator Mozilla says it has commitments from a number of manufacturers, including LG and Huawei, to build phones running Firefox OS in the near future.
