Andy Rubin, Senior Vice President of Mobile at Google, announced via his Twitter than over 3.7 million Android devices were activated over last Christmas weekend. This is a huge boost over normal, but already impressive number of daily Android activations that currently sits at around 700 thousand new units per day.
Android also recently reached another mobile milestone, now apparently boasting over 400 000 apps, edging it closer to Apple once again, but still around 100 00 short of its main competitor.
As always, Android is continuing to charge forwards. With an estimated 0.6% of Android devices already running Ice Cream Sandwich, with Gingerbread still claiming the title of most-used Android OS, we’re hoping to see some more improvements in the near future.
Android still has a long way to go if it wants to catch up to Apple in a lot of areas when it comes to market statistics, but that only means we have more interesting developments to look forward to in the future.
