Article Summary
Telus has followed Rogers, Bell, Fido and Virgin Mobile by increasing monthly charges to customers who signed up to their 10GB for $60 promotion just over a year ago, but Telus is asking for something more..
Telus jumped on the bandwagon in December 2017 to offer 10GB of data and unlimited nationwide calling for only $60 per month off contract. Bell, Rogers, Fido, Koodo and Virgin Mobile offered the same plan and it was offered in just Ontario, BC and Alberta. It appeared to be in reaction to the recent launch of Freedom Mobile and its high-speed LTE network.
Since the plans are month-to-month, customers can leave the plan at any time. However, the carriers also reserve the right to change the terms of the plan. In recent months Rogers and Fido gave notice that the plans would increase to $65/month. Bell and Virgin Mobile followed shortly afterwards.
This week Telus announced their price increase, but are breaking with the pattern and adding $10 instead of five. Any Telus customers currently on their 10GB for $60 plans will be charged $70/month starting in March or April.
Currently Koodo is the only national carrier who hasn't raised prices but that may change at any time.
Alternative Offers to 10GB for $60 Plans
If you find you're using 10GB every month (or you just feel more comfortable having that headroom) then $65-70 is still one of the best prices you'll find in Ontario, BC or Alberta on a national carrier network. WhistleOut has a dedicated guide for Canadians who were attracted by the deal but are now looking for a cell phone plan better than 10GB for $60 whether it's getting something more, something cheaper, or just something that suits their needs better.
