HTC’s first quad-core phone, the HTC Edge, is a little device we found some leaked goss on a few weeks back. Very little solid info is currently known about the HTC Edge, but now it’s starting to look like we could be seeing a release date in late February.
As far as specs go the HTC has a few likely sounding rumors floating about. The CPU is, of course, going to be the NVIDIA Tegra 3 chip which clocks in at around 1.5GHz, so long as it hasn’t been under or over-clocked. We would in no way be surprised if we were to see the Tegra 3 under-clocked to somewhere around the 1GHZ or 1.2GHz mark, as a quad-core 1.5GHz would be a bit of an overkill at this stage in the game.
The display is expected to be 4.7 inches, just like the HTC Sensation XL, but unlike the XL will hopefully sport a 720p display. RAM-wise the safe money is on 1GB. We’d like to see more RAM to support the faster processor, but with HTC’s current track record we aren’t going to be holding our breaths. An 8MP camera and probably between 16 and 32GB of storage but whether that be internal, MicroSD or a mixture of the two is anyone’s guess.
With the Mobile World Conference (MWC) around the corner we don’t think we’ll have to wait too long to get confirmation on the Edge’s release date. We’re also expecting to see a few other quad-core phones from other manufacturers make an appearance as well, so we’ll do our best to keep you updated on that front.
Until then we’d like to know what our readers think of quad-core phones. Do you see a purpose in it just yet, or would you prefer manufacturers to start concentrating on other areas like RAM, software or graphics processors before we make the jump to quad-core?
