Lenovo isn’t exactly a company that springs to mind when you think of TV, or Smart TV. However, at this year’s CES in Vegas Lenovo entered the TV market with a bang, introducing the world’s first TV running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
The TV goes by the moniker of the Lenovo K91 Smart TV and will, oddly enough, be initially available only in China. There will be a wider release later this year, however.
Lenovo is also set to launch its own cloud services that will provide media content streaming for its users. Other attributes include:
- 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage and a 2GB SD card (which we assume can be swapped out for more memory).
- A 1.5GHz Qualcomm 8060 Snapdragon processor
- Both a 42 inch and 50 inch 3D LED model will be available
- A gryo gamepad
- A regular remote with touchpad, integrated mic and voice recognition
- A 5MP camera with facial recognition for parental control (and, assumedly, video calls)
Now don’t go thinking that just because this TV runs Android that it’ll be Google TV compatible; it won’t. Currently Google TV is based on the Android 3.1 Honeycomb operating system (OS), so no Google TV services will be available on the Lenovo K91 Smart TV. However, it still sounds like a pretty intriguing piece of hardware that we’d love to get our hands on. What about you guys?
