Samsung has decided to enter the touchscreen QWERTY keypad handset fight with the Samsung Galaxy Y Pro. Sporting a very familiar form-factor, the Galaxy Y Pro is aimed at both business and casual users who enjoy their touchscreen interfaces, but still love that BlackBerry-style design with a smaller screen and physical keypad.
The 2.6 inch 320x240 inch screen isn’t going to wow anybody. Size-wise it’s standard for this style of device, but the low resolution is definitely going to be noticeable when compared to some of the competition from BlackBerry, HTC and even Nokia. We were hoping for a Super AMOLED or even Super AMOLED Plus screen on this one, but unfortunately it looks like we’re going to be getting a pretty standard LCD panel.
An 823MHz processor is pretty standard for this kind of handset and should handle most tasks you’d throw at it well enough. Of course with a 2.6 inch display Galaxy Y Pro users aren’t going to be visual media junkies, or particularly heavy gamers, so the CPU really shouldn’t be a problem.
No word yet on RAM or internal memory, but we expect both to be pretty low. We would suggest that the MicroSD expanded memory slot will definitely need to be made use of by anyone wanting to store anything more than standard day-to-day info on here. However, for now we can’t be certain.
Right now the only other bit of solid info we can deliver is that it will come running on Android Gingerbread, which is a nice touch. It’s true that Gingerbread has been out for a long time now, but we are still seeing more than a few devices debut without 2.3 support. We’ll keep you posted as more info on the Samsung Galaxy Y Pro comes out, but for now it’s sounding like Samsung isn’t trying to push any boundaries with the Y Pro; just provide a solid and reliable bar-style handset.
