It’s about time. Beginning on March 10, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) will be rolling out to Samsung Galaxy S II devices around the world. This rollout is for the global version of the GS2 and thus won’t help out most US owners, but there should hopefully be an update for the current 3 different Galaxy S II variants on the US market soon.
The update will be available over Samsung Kies and not over the air (OTA). Of course individual carriers will take their time adjusting the update to suit their requirements. As such delays could unfortunately be anything from relatively minor to substantial.
A quick note of warning, however. The ICS operating system (OS) currently does not support Flash player. This is apparently something that will be fixed in time, but there will probably only ever be one Flash update for ICS. Moving forward Android will no longer support Flash once ICS has been made compatible. Flash’s developer, Adobe, has decided to focus on HTML5 support in the future, rather than continuing to work on Flash which is an out-dated and rather cumbersome service.
