The HTC Runnymede is a new high-profile smartphone that we’re expecting from HTC in the upcoming months. Hardware-wise it’s not quite up to specs with the dual-core market leaders right now, but it’ll still certainly pack a punch with a single-core 1.5GHz processor, 768 MB of RAM and 8MP camera.
Probably the most notable feature of the HTC Runnymede is its whopping 4.7 inch display. At a good .4 inches wider on the diagonal than the HTC Sensation or Samsung Galaxy S II, the HTC Runnymede is certainly going to be a noticeable piece of equipment for anyone holding it. Amazingly, with all of this hardware crammed on board the Runnymede is still less than a cm thick, coming in just under with a 9.9mm (0.4 inch) profile.
Another intriguing feature of the Runnymede is that it is the first official device to openly display HTC’s deal with Beats Audio, even sporting a logo on the rear plate. Word on the street is that this phone not only sports some great new audio software, but will even come with a pair of Beats-branded cans, instead of HTC’s standard ear plugs.
We’re not sure what version of Android the Runnymede will come running on just yet, but we’d expect something like Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread with the new Sense 3.0 UI update. There's also no telling whether or not US customers will even see this device, as the current prototype is a European version, not to mention that should a Euro phone ever make it to America it's almost certain to see a name change as well as a few alterations to specs and appearance.
We’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for this one and will be sure to keep you updated as more news floats to the surface.
