At Google’s 2010 I/O conference one of the many things that grabbed the public’s attention was the addition of a voice translation app to their new Android update: Froyo.
The app doesn’t work for every language yet, but in the demonstration it convincingly understood a request, spoken in English by the presenter and repeated it back in grammatically-correct French.
As with most voice-recognition software the app is far from perfect, but it’s an exciting step towards a world without a language barrier.
