September is shaping up to be a big month. First Apple’s announcement that both iOS5 and iCloud will be coming, then some leaked documents by Lulzsec suggested a new iOS device (possibly the next iPhone) and to add on all of that WinPho Mango may have been accidentally announced via Twitter.
If true the move wouldn’t be surprising in the least. If Microsoft wants to expand its market share it’s certainly not going to achieve anything by finally updating WinPho 7 after Apple releases its new software.
For our readers who don’t know, the Windows Phone Mango update is set to bring with it a huge number of fixes and changes to the Windows Phone platform. Changes that could prove to be sufficient to bring WP7 in line with the market leading competition in terms of functionality.
We did a quick posta while back on a few new features from Mango that will apparently be implemented. To add to this list there will also be updates to the media player, navigation and some general UI improvements.
Right now information on Mango is a little sketchy, as Microsoft is still making up its mind about a lot of features. We’ll bring you a bigger post a bit later when we can be certain about the solidity of the information given to us.
Our hopes are definitely high for Windows Phone 7, as it really is a fantastic foundation on which we believe a great mobile UI can be constructed. Let’s cross our fingers that the Mango update will be Microsoft’s second big step towards offering us another viable choice at the top-end of the mobile market.
