Windows Phone 7.5 Mango is finally ready to get pushed to existing devices. If you’re living in the US then all you have to do is connect your handset to your computer and load the Zune client. You should be notified pretty quickly if the Mango update is ready to be installed on your phone.
For folks outside the US we’re still uncertain as to availability as yet. We’ve had reports from Australia and the UK from users saying that their Zune client is still telling them that their handsets are up to date. But that the update should start hitting other countries pretty quickly, so definitely keep your eye out.
This is great news for existing Windows Phone users but we do have to tell you guys about one minor point. Although the Mango update does allow for WiFi hotspot functionality, existing devices that download the upgrade will not be able to make use of this feature. Instead only new devices that come running Mango out of the box, or any devices that come after, will be able to act as WiFi hotspots. It’s not a huge deal, but it’ll definitely matter to a select few people.
It also means that we shouldn't have too much longer to wait on all those juicy Mango devices we've been hearing about over the last few months. So definitely stay tuned for more news about hat.
In the meantime we'd like to hear from our resident Windows Phone users. Have any of our non-US readers been able to update their devices? We’d also like to know any immediate thoughts from those who have been able to update their devices already. Good points, bad points, things you thought would be great but are just ok. Feel free to voice your opinion in our comments section.
