If you couldn’t get enough of unlocking new shoes and making nightclub appearances in Kim Kardashian: Hollywood (and really, who among us could not?), get ready for the next big thing in apps: the Katy Perry mobile game.
San Francisco company Glu Mobile, the developer behind the infamous Kim K game, has announced that it will be partnering with California gurl Perry to launch the pop star’s first-ever smartphone game later in the year.
Calling Perry ‘arguably the most recognized musician in America’ and ‘a cultural icon’, Glu Mobile will use the singer’s voice and likeness in the game, although has yet to reveal any actual details as to what the game will be about.
Hot and cold
Fans can expect a similar experience to Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, which saw players able to create their own personalized character and complete challenges (such as ‘going on a date’ and ‘trending on Twitter’) in order to improve their social standing and achieve mega-fame.
It’s highly likely the Katy Perry game with be free to download, with plenty of opportunities for in-app purchases. Assuming Perry’s game follows the Kardashian model, players may get to live out their music stardom fantasies as a virtual pop princess, recreating Perry’s career trajectory by kissing a girl (and liking it, presumably).
We’d also like to see other elements of Perry’s life translate to the app. Will players get to virtually marry Russell Brand atop an Indian elephant, only to dramatically separate 14 months later? Will we get to enjoy a creepy rebound fling with college fraternity spirit animal John Mayer? Our fingers are crossed!
Glu Mobile plans to launch the game globally on both iOS and Android phones and tablets in late 2015. We’ll keep you updated on any further developments.
