TAG Heuer has recently revealed a pretty intriguing product it’s been working on: an Android smartphone. The TAG Heuer Racer is a high-end and sleekly crafted piece of designer hardware. Obviously modelled after the sharp angles and streamlined frame of many modern racing cars, the TAG Heuer Racer is definitely a unique vision of aesthetic smartphone construction.

The frame is a mixture of light-weight materials like carbon fibre and titanium, which keeps the device within the theme of the supercar world. There’s even an artsy and super-flashy video to go along with this ultra-trendy handset.

But does it work? Well, right now we don’t really have any idea. The Racer apparently sports a “high speed” CPU and the “latest Android software”. Which could mean anything from a dual-core Android 2.3 Gingerbread device to a quad-core Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) monster.

Also on the to-be-announced list are such things as availability and cost. While we expect this fashionable piece of hardware to fetch a hefty price-tag we’re still in the dark as to just how ridiculous it will be and when you’ll be given the option of emptying your wallet to get it.

Still, we always enjoy it when manufacturers come out with new external designs. We’d be interested to find out if any of the current major hardware makers had a collaborative hand in the Racer or if TAG Heuer’s effort was independent. Either way it’s at the very least an interesting design, even if it’s not your particular brand of sexy.
