Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini: not so pint-sized

The long-rumored Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini has finally, officially reared its not-so-mini head. A video uploaded by 3 Mobile UK has shown off the upcoming device in welcome detail. As suggested by its name, the Galaxy S4 Mini rocks very mid-range specs. The dual-core 1.7GHz processor and 1.5GB of RAM up the ante a bit in terms of the mid-range ‘standard’, plus there’s 8GB of internal storage with a MicroSD slot for up to 64GB of expandable memory. Interestingly, the 4.3 inch qHD (540x960) display isn’t really that ‘mini’. At least, it’s not what we’ve traditionally thought of as small. 4.3 inches is bigger than the upsized iPhone 5, only .4 inches smaller than the HTC One and is larger than the Samsung Galaxy flagship from two generations back: the Samsung Galaxy SII, which had a 4.2 inch WVGA display. The whole thing comes running on Android 4.2.2 (beating out the HTC One in that regard) and has six bands of global 4G LTE support. There’s also dual-channel HSPA+, for non-4G regions. The specs, coupled with that Galaxy S4 moniker, should make the Galaxy S4 Mini one of, if not the best-selling mid-range on the market for a decent while. We wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up out-selling some more premium phones.
