It’s taken a while, but the Samsung Galaxy S II finally has a likely US announcement date. That’s right, American customers will finally be able to purchase the already iconic and internationally successful Galaxy S II ‘superphone’. The believed launch will happen on August 29th during a major Samsung product announcement in New York.
Industry tech gurus all seem to agree, but have not been able to confirm, that this is the event where the US will finally get its first real look at the Samsung Galaxy S II, a smartphone that sold 5 million handsets in its first 85 days around the globe.
Of course there’s a good chance that the Galaxy S II could see some slight variations from the current model making its way around the world. America carriers are infamous for putting their own little tweaks and twists in to devices in order to give them that slight bit of uniqueness that will allow them to change the moniker. The currently rumored names for America’s top 4 players are the Verizon Function, the AT&T Attain, the Sprint Within and the T-Mobile Hercules.
If you’re unfamiliar with the Galaxy S II we’ve included a quick specs sheet below.

- 8.5mm profile
- Dual-core 1.2 GHz CPU

The Galaxy S II is expected to see the same kind of popularity its predecessor – the Samsung Galaxy S – did back when it was released around a year ago. In short the GSII has a good chance of taking and securing the Android throne for some time now. It’s no surprise when you look at the specs. Coupled with its already enormous global popularity it’s a safe bet that the Samsung Galaxy S II will find its fair share of happy customers once it finally hits the American Market on its soon-to-be-announced release date.
