Article Summary
Butterfingered smartphone owners may want to take advantage of open enrollment at Rogers and Fido for Device Protection Plans. You can get your first screen repaired for free or have your lost device completely replaced by adding $13/month to your in-market plan.
For a limited time new and existing customers with Rogers and sub-brand Fido can sign up for Premium Device Protection on their smartphones. Normally this service is reserved for new phones purchased through Rogers or Fido and only within the first 45 days.
Device Protection Lite, Premium Device Protection and Premium Device Protection + Value Pack are available until May 31, 2019 for new customers bringing their own phone. Existing customers must have an in-market active plan. If you're on a one-time offer or loyalty plan that's no longer available (like the 10GB for $60 plan) then you won't be able to take advantage of this offer without changing your plan.
The cheapest Protection Plan is the $9/month Device Protection Lite covering out-of-warranty defects and damage. You will be charged a processing fee (from $30-$175 depending on the severity of damage).
To get your screen repaired for free or a device replacement, you'll need to spring for the $13/month Premium Device Protection. That works out to $156 per year plus taxes. Not a small amount to budget, but if you have a history of dropping your phone then the peace-of-mind could be worth every dollar.
If your device is stolen or lost then you'll get a replacement device for free. This isn't available in Quebec, but everywhere else you'll receive the same or better device although it may be a refurbished model.
Before signing up to the Premium Device Protection, you may find even more value out of the Value Pack added on for $15/month. With it, you also receive Premium Voicemail-to-Text or iPhone Visual Voicemail, unlimited global text messages, preferred US and international calling rates and more. This add-on normally costs $7/month on its own but only costs $2 when you bundle it with the Premium Device Protection.
If you're on another carrier, signing up to any wireless package (including Bring Your Own Device plans) will give you the chance to get this offer. WhistleOut has already picked out the best mobile plans on Fido and the Best phone plans on Rogers, but our unique search engine will help you find the perfect cell phone plan that's right for you.
