Nokia has unveiled the latest in its Lumia family of Windows Phones, announcing the 625 will be available in most parts of the world from September.
What makes the 625 remarkable is the size of the phone, compared with other models in the lower-price tiers. Nokia includes a 4.7-inch screen in the Lumia 625, making it just slightly larger than its upcoming flagship, the Lumia 925.
But there's big screens and there are great screens, and it seems the 625 won't have both. Nokia chooses only a WVGA (480 x 800 pixel) resolution LCD panel for this phone, and when you have that number of pixels stretched over a big display, the results typically aren't very good.
Hopefully this lower resolution won't detract greatly from using the excellent Nokia Maps software HERE, which comes pre-installed on the phone (as it does on all new Nokia handsets). There is also Nokia Music which is great, and better still, free to use.
Under the hood, the story is a little better; with a dual-core 1.2GHz processor on hand, and 512 MB RAM. Remembering how slick and power efficient Windows Phone 8 is, this should be more than enough to deliver great everyday performance.
The handset come in a number of eye-catching colours, and with have a removable backplate, so you can mix and match styles.
Nokia is estimating a cost of €220 (US$290) so expect to find the Lumia 625 in the pre-paid section of your local phone store shortly.
