AT&T’s prepaid carrier – AIO Wireless – has released the iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s for sale to its customers. The move is probably unsurprising, based on AT&T’s long-running history with Apple’s iconic iPhone line.
The iPhone 5s on AIO Wireless 16GB will run you $649.99 and the 5c $549.99 for its comparable model.
AIO rate plans for the iPhones start at $55 for the ‘AIO Smart’ package. This gets you unlimited data (high speed for the first 2GB), unlimited talk and unlimited messaging. The ‘AIO Pro’ plan is $70 and includes the same unlimited talk & text, but won’t cut your data speed until 7GB has been used.
As an AT&T subsidiary, AIO and its customers have access to AT&T’s nation-wide 4G LTE network, giving AIO a cutting edge when compared to its prepaid competitors. As such demand for both these phones is likely to be high.
Stiff competition
In terms of pricing for the iPhone 5c on a prepaid carrier AIO’s deal isn’t the best around; that distinction currently goes to Virgin Mobile. The Virgin Beyond Talk plan is also $55 per month, but the phone itself will only cost you just $449.99 up front – $100 cheaper than you’d get it from AIO.
It’s a competition of coverage and data speeds vs pricing. Should you save $100 and go with Virgin Mobile’s network which is smaller and limited to 3G speeds, or opt for a wider coverage with 4G LTE running the show and pay the full up-front price? It’s really up to you.
