There’s been a lot of exciting new tech coming out or at least being announced this year. Dual-core phones have showed their colours, dual-screen handsets have even made their debut, amazing new functions and service integration has been demonstrated and we’re finally starting to see some real competition in the tablet market. Now, according to Ausroid, HTC has just applied for 7 new Trademarks.
We have absolutely no idea what kind of devices we’re looking at here; all we can tell you are the names.
HTC Radiant
- HTC Equalize
- HTC Port
- HTC Rift
- HTC Cobalt
- HTC Vivid
- HTC Pro
Ausroid has their own loose predictions on what these monikers could entail and we certainly agree that the HTC Equalize may definitely end up being a music-centric phone. We don’t want to make any judgements based on the device names alone, but we can certainly tell you what we hope to see.
Considering recent trends in the portable device market we expect at least a few of these new gadgets to sport dual-core processors, possibly 1.2GHz or greater. Dedicated graphics cards are sure to make an appearance and we’re hoping to see some kind of greater functionality to contend with the Motorola Atrix and its range interfacing gadgets.
Both Sony and Apple are stepping up their focus on mobile gaming of late, so it’s not a leap of faith to hope for at least one gaming-centric device coming out of HTC.
As far as tablets go we wouldn’t discount HTC turning out another contender for the iPad and iPad 2. HTC’s current tablet – the HTC Flyer – looks like a very interesting device that should do very well with its target niche market. However, the Flyer is inferior to what have become traditional tablets in that it runs on an older OS (Android 2.2) that is not designed specifically for tablets and has only a single-core 1.5GHz processor.
We would love some kind of funky, off-the-cuff experimental device like the Motorola Atrix or dual-screen Kyocera Echo would be nice but we won’t hold our breaths.
Obviously a good few of these devices will be aimed at the lower and middle ranges of the market. One of the great things about the Android platform is that it comes in all shapes, sizes and prices. As a result Google’s popular platform can appeal to an even greater range of people. With HTC needing to spread its focus over more than just one area of the market it’s doubtful
What kind of devices and services do you hope HTC will be releasing in this next batch? Would you prefer to see a top-end phone, a tablet, a good mid-range device or something really new?
