There’s been a lot of debate as to when, or even if the upcoming BlackBerry Phones running on RIM’s new BBX platform will have support for BlackBerry Email Services (BES). Most tended to focus around whether or not the upcoming BBX device, the BlackBerry Colt, will be able to support BES.
Those rumors have finally been laid to rest with PCMag’s interview of Alec Saunders, IM’s Vice President of Developer Relations and Ecosystem Development, who has reportedly stated that the Colt will support the iconic and trusted BlackBerry Email System.
The news on the street is that the BlackBerry Colt will basically be a shrunk down version of the BlackBerry Playbook, in some respects. At the very least the display of the Colt is set to run on a resolution of 1024 x 600 with an aspect ratio of 16:9; the exact same specs as the BlackBerry Playbook, but on a much smaller screen.
Basically what all that means is a higher PPI (pixels per inch) count, which leads to images of superior quality on a screen that has the same aspect ratio as most TV’s. Meaning movies will make full use of the display, rather than filling half of it with black, unused space.
We’re not too sure about the rest of the specs of the BlackBerry Colt just yet, but this news definitely has our interest piqued. We can’t wait to see what RIM can do with this new operating system and whether it will be enough to keep them in the game.
