The newest model receives notable performance upgrades to processing speed, battery life, and cameras while keeping the price attractive. However, the iPhone 13 mini has similar pocket-friendly dimensions with better hardware features, making it a better value despite the higher price tag ($949).

Is the iPhone SE 5G a Good Phone?

The new iPhone SE (2022) is a great choice for Canadians who love their old iPhone but aren't interested in the high price tag of an iPhone 13 or iPhone 13 Pro. What is the iPhone SE (2022) equivalent to?

The closest cousin to the new iPhone SE (2022) is the iPhone 13 mini. Both models use Apple's newest A15 Bionic CPU, which smokes the Android competition and fits comfortably in your pocket. The iPhone SE (2022) retains the classic Home button design, so its display is smaller (4.7" vs. 5.4"). The base model has just half the storage of the iPhone 13 mini (64GB vs. 128GB), but there are storage options up to 256GB.

The camera hardware specs remain the same, but the faster A15 Bionic CPU inside vastly improves post-processing. The new iPhone SE (2022) includes features like Smart HDR 4, Deep Fusion, and Photographic Styles, so your pictures come out looking even better than real life.

Is iPhone SE (2022) Worth the Money?

The new iPhone SE (2022) is worth the money when you consider it uses the same processor as the cutting-edge iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro. The iPhone SE (2022) still uses a 12MP camera on the back, a 7MP sensor on the front, a 4.7" LCD with 1334x750 resolution, and a meager 64GB of storage on the base model. However, the low price is a bigger selling point for many casual iPhone fans. The new iPhone SE (2022) costs hundreds of dollars less than the comparable iPhone 13 mini, starting at $949.

The cheapest iPhone SE (2022) model costs $579, which is lower than the $599 release price of the second-generation iPhone SE in 2020. The original iPhone SE in 2016 cost $579 at release ($679 in 2022 dollars), so the iPhone SE (2022) is probably the cheapest iPhone ever.

The only other iPhone models that come close to price are the iPhone 12 with more and better cameras—and the iPhone 11 which sports an older A13 Bionic CPU. But even a few years old, these models are still more expensive than the iPhone SE (2022).
