Samsung are so keen to be seen as the most technologically advanced, they have created a special CPU boosting mode that switches on only when popular benchmark software is run on the Galaxy Note 3.

Discovered by the super-sleuths at Ars Technica, the boosting mode appears to disable the CPU idle state while running benchmark tools like AnTuTu and Geekbench, effectively given the phone a 20% enhancement in the test's results.

To prove the existence of this computational cheating, the Ars team renamed the Geekbench app at a package level so that the phone would believe it was running something different. They re-ran the benchmark and saw considerably lower scores -- results more in line with other devices using the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset.

What is crazy is that the Galaxy Note 3 would have one of the highest test scores without the booster software, but this clearly wouldn't be enough for Samsung.
