The next version of Android has been confirmed by Google as Lollipop. Previously known only as “L”, the now-official candied title was already expected but, as we learned from Key Lime Pie turning in to KitKat at the last instant, one can never be too sure.

Along with the new name, the accompanying number will be 5.0 and not 4.5. Google usually only reserves big number changes like this for what it considers to be a significant step in progress and change in the way Android works.

Android L already promised to be that when Google first announced it back in June, so perhaps it’s no great surprise.
