Article Summary
As one of Canada's largest carriers, Telus offers data sharing and discounts for customers who add more than one phone line to an account. You can share data across plans, get an unlimited data plan with a set amount of data for each smartphone line, and even share data with tablets, a smartwatch and more.
Telus Mobility features Canada's largest, fastest and most reliable wireless network. With Telus, you can put your whole family on their own cell phone plans and share one data pack to save hundreds of dollars every year. WhistleOut shows you how you can add more data for cheap with tablet and smartwatch plans, and even how to get wifi in your car!
Every line has their pick of nationwide or Canada + U.S. You can add a data pack to your account whereby every device shares the data. Because you're sharing one large data bucket, light data users in the household can offset the cost of heavy data users.
5 Ways to Save With Telus Family Sharing
Combining two or more plans on one bill can quickly save you at least $10/month and unlock larger data plans.

- Peace of Mind Connect
- Discount on additional lines
- $75 referral bonus (x2)
Telus Simple Share Plans
Most Canadians don't use more than 2GB of data per month, so Simple Share plans start around 5 or 6GB of data and unlimited nationwide talk and text. When you add more with larger data plans, everyone on your account benefits. Everyone shares data so an upgrade for one plan means everyone gets to share that extra breathing room before hitting a monthly limit.
Telus has Simple Share plans that range from 5GB to 50GB. Punch your address, data needs and how many lines you need on WhistleOut's search tool for the best Simple Share package to fit your family.
Telus Peace of Mind Plans
The trend in 2019 for major carriers is "unlimited data." Download and upload speeds are slowed down after you hit your monthly data limit, so it may not be truly "unlimited." However, you still can watch Netflix without worrying about data overage charges. Even if you hit your limit and data is throttled for the rest of month, you still get 512 kbps, which is fast enough for premium Spotify streaming. You can't share the data cap like you can with Simple Share plans, but if everyone has unlimited data, then who needs to share?
There's only one Peace of Mind plan at the moment, as larger plans have been upgraded to Peace of Mind Connect (read more below). However, it remains one of the cheapest ways to get unlimited data in Canada.
Telus Peace of Mind Connect Plans
Open up larger data caps and open up your plan to more mobile devices. Peace of Mind Connect plans offer up to 50GB of full-speed data and unlimited throttled speed after that. You get the added benefit of adding up to six LTE-enabled tablets, smartwatches and the exclusive TELUS Drive+ system which turns your car into a WiFi hotspot. You can't share the data with other smartphones, but it's still an affordable way to get your smart-devices online for no additional monthly charge.
You only need one family member on Peace of Mind Connect to share your data with a tablet or smartwatch. Everyone else can get the Peace of Mind plan that's perfect for them.
Family Discounts Up To $15 Each
With Simple Share, Peace of Mind or Peace of Mind Connect plans you get a discount of at least $5/month off every plan when you have two lines on an account.
- Two lines get $5/month discount ($10 total)
- Three lines get $10/month discount ($30 total)
- Four or more lines each get $15/month discount ($60+ total)
You could save $60 every month just by putting everyone in your home on a single bill.
Referral Bonus for New Lines
It's always great to get advice when looking for a monthly plan. If you log into your account and send a referral email to new customer, you both get a $75 credit to your accounts. Adding a family member? You get both credits for a whopping $150!
Even better, you'll be helping youth transitioning out of foster care by supporting the TELUS Mobility for Good™ program. Everyone wins from this deal.
Add A Data-only Device, Get More Data
Another way to get more use out of your Family Share plan is to add an LTE-enabled smart device. Many can be bought through Telus for as little as $0 upfront.
Tablet Data Plan
Telus sells tablets to individual users, but their best deals are unfortunately limited to Small Business accounts. Talk with a representative and you may be able to add tablet data onto a Family Share plan. It could be worth it since they have a selection of Android tablets and Apple iPads for $0 down and 1GB of data for as little as $10/month.
Connected Car Data Plan
Now we're talking about the future! Plug the Telus Drive+ device into your car and get battery and fuel alerts, boundary alerts, location tracking and more. Plus, any tablets on your trip can connect to in-car wifi that taps into your family plan shared data.
A Connected Car data plan costs $0 upfront on a 2-year plan. For $10/month Telus will add an extra 1GB of data to your Family Share plan, or for $20 they'll add 3GB of data each month. If you don't want a contract, then you can buy the Telus Drive+ device for $200 upfront.
Why Get A Family Plan?
Family Share plans offer a lot of benefits:
- One large data bucket can offer one of your lowest cost-per-gigabyte options
- Every household phone line appears on one convenient bill
- Add a smartwatch or even put WiFi in your car and all devices share the same data plan
- Get your kids, elderly parents or even friends on the plan. There's no rule that they need to be related to be on your "Family" plan
- Kids gone off to school? Children living away from home and elderly parents living in another province can still share your account
- You may find cheaper rates in Manitoba, Saskatchewan or Quebec. If a family member lives there, take a look at those rates. For example, if you set up your Family Shared account in Saskatchewan:
