In this guide, we’ll analyze the Koodo Mobile coverage map, breaking down where you can find their best coverage and where you’ll encounter the carrier’s dreaded dead zones. We’ll also compare the coverage to their competitors, including Public Mobile, Virgin Plus, and Fido, so you’ll understand your options before activating a new plan.

Koodo Mobile coverage map
The Koodo Mobile coverage map spans much of the country, thanks to its parent company, Telus. Koodo’s plans operate on the nationwide Telus network, which reaches over 99% of Canadians and covers 37% of the country. Coverage is especially strong in the urban areas of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, and Quebec, where Koodo customers experience high-speed service and few dropped calls.

Koodo Mobile 5G availability
Koodo also has access to Telus’ 5G network, which currently reaches 70% of Canadians and continues to expand every year. Recently, though, Koodo has scaled back their 5G plans. In the past year, they’ve offered a few 5G options, though only for limited periods of time. In theory, Koodo is a 5G provider; as of this article’s publication, though, they’re not offering any 5G plans.
We’re guessing this is a matter of branding. Public Mobile, which bills itself as “Canada’s first 5G subscription service,” is also a Telus-owned carrier. We assume Telus isn’t interested in pitting two of its flankers against each other and, instead, has positioned Public as the affordable 5G option and Koodo as its prepaid cousin.
Compare Koodo Mobile coverage: Public Mobile, Virgin Plus, and Fido
The Koodo Mobile coverage map is large, but how does it compare to the competition? We analyzed the Public Mobile, Virgin Plus, and Fido coverage maps to see how Koodo stacks up.

---|---|---|---|---|
Koodo Mobile | Telus | 70% | 99% | 37% |
Public Mobile | Telus | 70% | 99% | 37% |

Public Mobile vs. Koodo Mobile coverage map
Like Koodo, Public Mobile operates on the nationwide Telus network, meaning that Public’s coverage map is identical to Koodo’s. They, too, offer affordable 4G plans that cover over 99% of Canadians. The key difference between Koodo and Public is 5G.
Public Mobile bills itself as Canada’s first “5G subscription phone service.” It offers cheap plans on the Telus 5G network, which reaches over 70% of the country’s residents. The plans are so good that they often top our guide to the best cell phone plans in Canada.
Public’s 5G coverage is available in every province except the Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. By and large, the country’s major metropolitan areas receive reliable 5G service, though Public’s high-speed service will likely expand as Telus continues to expand its network. Koodo, on the other hand, rarely offers 5G plans. The carrier is now mostly focused on providing cheap 4G LTE prepaid plans and smartphone deals, including the occasional free phone.
If you’re interested in exploring some of Public’s best options, you can find the carrier’s most popular plans below, including a few cheap 5G plans.
Virgin Plus vs. Koodo Mobile coverage map
Virgin Plus operates on the nationwide Bell network, which provides 4G LTE coverage to over 99% of Canadians, while its 5G reaches over 70%. Bell’s network footprint is slightly smaller than Telus’, covering 36$ of the country compared with Telus’ 37%. Virgin Plus offers a wide range of plans, including cheap prepaid plans, mid-range 4G LTE options, and premium 5G options.
The 5G option is where Virgin Plus differs the most from Koodo. The carrier regularly offers 5G plans, providing customers affordable access to the Bell 5G network, which is available in nearly every metropolitan area in Canada. Like a lot of flankers, Virgin always seems to running promotions, especially for their 5G plans, which allow customers to grab high-speed coverage for as little as $50/month.

Fido vs. Koodo Mobile coverage map
Fido operates on Rogers' nationwide 4G LTE network, which reaches over 97% of Canadians and covers 28% of the map. That’s a smaller reach than Koodo, though the Rogers network has been rated the most reliable in the country. If it covers your neighborhood, it’s the best option.
The flanker offers several affordable plans for budget-conscious consumers looking for reliable coverage, though it doesn’t offer any 5G options. Unlike Koodo, Fido has never offered 5G, and we don’t see that changing anytime soon. Rogers has traditionally kept its brands in very specific pods: Rogers offers premium 5G options, Chatr offers prepaid/basic, and Fido offers solid 4G LTE packages.
