UPDATE: The iPhone 14 was unveiled on September 7th, and many of the rumors that swirled were proven true. The iPhone 14 Pro features a flat edge design made out of titanium, a trio of rear cameras featuring a 48MP main camera and periscope lens, and a new, faster A16 processor. It's now available from nearly every carrier in Canada.
The iPhone 14 features similar design notes and strong performance, with the addition of a 6.7" "Plus" model to replace the lackluster "mini" from the iPhone 12 and 13 series.

iPhone 14 models and prices
The iPhone 14 costs $699 MSRP. While still expensive, it’s nice to see that Apple is aiming to keep the price of the entry-level iPhone at its current starting point. However, iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max are much more expensive and no longer available through the Apple store.
The iPhone SE (2022) will also remain available for those wanting a cheaper or smaller iPhone option.
iPhone 14 availability and release
The iPhone 14 launched in September 2022. It's available from every major carrier, so you won’t have to change your cell phone provider to get your hands on the newest Apple phones.
iPhone 14 cameras
The iPhone 14 features a 12MP TrueDepth camera on the front and two 12MP cameras on the rear (one Ultra Wide and one Wide lens with Sensor-shift optical image stablization).
Apple’s iPhones continue to perform well on the camera front, but the Google Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, and the Samsung Galaxy S22 lineup have pulled away in megapixel count. Megapixels are far from the only spec that matters when it comes to cameras, but Apple knows that many customers will be tempted by the 108MP branding that Samsung has right now.
iPhone 14 display
The iPhone 14 and 14 Pro both have 6.1-inch displays; that’s the same size as the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro. The new iPhone 14 Max option and the iPhone 14 Pro Max are expected to feature the same sized 6.7-inch panel as the iPhone 13 Pro Max does.
Buyers of the Pro models will be treated to a 120hz ProMotion display that makes everything from unlocking the phone to scrolling through web pages to high refresh rate games look and feel silky smooth, but reports on the iPhone 14 and 14 Max are inconclusive.
iPhone 14 software and performance
The iPhone 14 was released with iOS 16, which offered plenty of new features, including a redesigned Lock Screen. The iPhone 14 also came with an A15 Bionic chip and a 5-core GPU.
In regular day-to-day use there likely won’t be much of a performance difference, but efficiency and Pro-specific features may only be available with the A16 processor. This was the first time that Apple has launched smartphones with different processors at the same time. While this may not seem like a huge deal at first, it set a precedent for Apple to hold out more and more features from the base model to keep the Pro models in their own class.
iPhone 14 charging and connectivity
Despite pressure from Europe for all chargers to USB-C could be enough to force the change, the iPhone 14 still has a Lightning charger. The switch to USB-C would not come until the iPhone 15.
Should you upgrade to the iPhone 14 or the iPhone 15?
The iPhone 15 is a superior device in almost every category: it has a faster processor, a long battery life, a better display, and a USB-C. Still, the iPhone 15 is significantly more expensive. Now that the iPhone 14 is an "outdated" model, its price has gone way down. If you want to read more, we break it down in our head-to-head matchup of the newest iPhones.
