Check your Starlink speed to see if you’re getting what you need out of your internet plan.
You can check your internet speed at the top of this page, in the box with a blue button that says “Start Speed Test.” Once you’ve tapped on the button, our site will assess your download speed and show you its result. Afterward, you may want to select “Show More Info” to access latency and upload test speeds as well.
This Starlink speed test is accurate, measuring the download speed, upload speed, and latency of your internet connection. You can increase the accuracy of your internet speed test results by resetting your Starlink router, restarting your computer/smartphone, or halting any other internet activity while performing the speed test.
If you’re not getting the download, upload, and latency test results you expect, there are a few steps you can take to optimize your internet connection.
If you find that you’re still not getting the speeds promised by your plan, you can contact customer support by emailing [email protected]. Starlink does not currently have a customer support phone number.
Starlink in Canada is fast, especially compared with other satellite internet and fixed broadband providers: users report download speeds between 50-150Mbps. At its best, that's fast enough for a household to stream, game, and work from home across multiple devices. Still, you should expect the Starlink average speed to be closer to 100Mbps, which might lead to some latency issues if you have too many devices operating at the same time.
Starlink may one day be faster than 5G, but its current 150Mbps max speed is slower than most 5G wireless and internet speeds, which can reach speeds up to 1Gbps.
Yes, Starlink is fast enough for gaming. Starlink customers report speeds up to 150Mbps, which is fast enough for multiplayer gaming, as well as video-conferencing and streaming. Keep in mind, though, that's the Starlink max speed. Most users report average speeds of 100Mbps, which might affect your gaming experience.
Starlink internet service is available in most of Canada, though it's not yet available in every part of the country. Starlink is not currently available in the larger metropolitan areas of Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Calgary, and some areas outside of Edmonton, though the provider says service will arrive in those areas in late 2023.
Whether or not Starlink is better than fibre depends on the fibre plan. Starlink's 150Mbps max download speed is faster than the cheaper fibre internet plans on the market, like Virgin Plus' plan or TekSavvy's , but it pales in comparison to some of the best internet plans in Canada, like Bell's , which offers speeds up to for /month, or Telus' , which offers for /month.
Starlink Roam, previously called Starlink RV, is Starlink's portable satellite internet service, allowing customers to access the internet while traveling.
The service costs $170/month, plus an initial $599 for the standard portable hardware, and allows customers to access Starlink internet from campsites and rest stops. If customers want to use Starlink Roam while they're en route to their next destination, they'll pay $2,500 for the in-motion hardware.
