Netcrawler internet plans

Netcrawler offers just a few internet plans, but don’t mistake the limited options for limited value. Netcrawler’s plans provide fast internet service for an affordable price. We especially like that their plans avoid the unexpected fees so many other providers sneak into the fine print.

What we like

Fast cable internet plans

Netcrawler plans offer access to high-speed cable internet without breaking the bank. The Unlimited 100 is the best of the bunch, providing 100Mbps speeds and unlimited data for $44/month. If you’ve got a household full of serious gamers and work-from-home professionals, we recommend the Unlimited 500, which will ensure low latency and uninterrupted service,  for $67/month.

Affordable monthly payments

Fast internet usually means steep prices, but Netcrawler’s plans have rather low monthly payments. If you’re looking for the best balance of value and speed, the best Netcrawler plan for you is the , which provides speeds and unlimited data for /month.

More importantly, unlike most other Canadian internet providers, the prices stay low, even after extended service. Several other providers, including Diallog and Virgin Plus, increase their plans’ monthly payments within the first year of service, in some cases by 100%. Netcrawler increases prices after six months (for the and Unlimited 500) and a year (for the Unlimited 100), but the increases are a fraction of what their competitors charge.

Free 5G wireless modem

We love a good perk and Netcrawler offers an especially enticing one in their free 5G wireless modem, which is included with the activation of any of their cable internet plans. Other carriers charge up to $50 for a modem–and that’s before activation fees.

What we don't like

Coverage limited to select areas of Ontario

You might’ve gathered by now that we’re fans of Netcrawler internet. It’s true! In fact, we’re such big fans that we wish their internet service was more widely available rather than limited to select areas Netcrawler covers. We hope to see their coverage map expand in the next few years, but in the meantime you can check to see if Netcrawler service is available near you by using our internet plan search engine.

Limited technical support

Netcrawler is a smaller internet service provider and, as such, has limited technical support. Customer service specialists are available on WhatsApp and on video conferencing seven days a week from 9 a.m.–10 p.m. ET. Unfortunately, not all of our technical issues happen during those hours. It’s not an absolute deal breaker, but we do wish there was more technical support available for Netcrawler customers.

Netcrawler internet vs. competitors

Netcrawler is a great option for high-speed internet in Ontario, but they’re not the only game in town. Let’s take a look at some of the other ISPs in the province to get a sense of the competition.

Netcrawler internet vs. Diallog

Diallog offers basic and high-speed internet service to residents of Ontario and Quebec, with far more variety than Netcrawler: the provider has a dozen plans, with bare-bones options like the Basic, which offers 6Mbps speeds and unlimited data for $12.50/month, all the way up to fast cable options like the Gigabit plan, which provides blistering 1000Mbps speeds and unlimited data for $42.50/month.

Diallog’s low prices are a bit misleading, though: prices for all of the plans double after just three months of service. Netcrawler may appear to be more expensive, but if you’re looking beyond the first three months, they’re actually the cheaper–and better–option.

Netcrawler internet vs. Virgin Plus

Virgin Plus provides fibre internet service to Ontario and Quebec, with prices starting at $39/month. Virgin Plus plans are geared at basic internet users more concerned with price than speed, with their fastest plan topping out at 300Mbps. That plan costs $50/month, a significantly cheaper price than Netcrawler’s comparable and only doubles after 12 months of service.

We’re calling a draw here. If you want immediate savings, then we recommend Virgin Plus. If you’re looking for faster internet and long-term value, then we suggest Netcrawler.

Netcrawler internet vs. Fido

Fido offers two cable interet plans aimed at families with relatively low internet use. There’s the plan, with speeds and unlimited data for /month, and , which offers speeds and unlimited data for /month. Netcrawler’s Unlimited 100 is cheaper than both plans and is just as fast as Fido’s best, with 100Mbps speeds and unlimited data for just $44/month. Netcrawler is the clear winner here, for both speed and value.

Recap: Is Netcrawler internet right for you?

Netcrawler is a great choice for affordable high-speed internet in Ontario. We like their fast speeds, cheap monthly payments, and their commitment to transparency. While we recognize there are some downsides to going with a smaller internet service provider, we think Netcrawler’s plans offer enough positives that they’re worth those small sacrifices.

There are still other strong options in Ontario, especially if you’re looking for plans with speeds of 1Gbps or greater. We recommend checking out the best internet plans in Canada and using our internet plan search engine to compare plans available in your area before making your final decision.

Methodology: How WhistleOut rates internet plans

WhistleOut evaluates internet plans based on the following criteria:

  • Price & value: Not all cheap plans are “bad,” and not all expensive plans are worth it. We look at everything a plan includes and compare it both to other plans from the same provider, as well as similar plans from competitors in the market, to determine whether the value is consistent with the price.
  • Speed & data: Faster upload and download speeds usually mean a better user experience, but not every household needs the fastest plan available. Additionally, the more guaranteed high-speed data the plan includes, the better the plan—but there’s also usually a limit to how much you actually need, and we ensure that you’re not overpaying for services or data that will go unused.
  • Coverage & network reliability: The breadth of an ISP’s network determines your reception and service. We value ISPs with large coverage maps who can provide quality internet to more Canadians.
  • Plan extras and perks: In addition to the basics—speeds and data—some plans throw in freebies like modems, installation, entertainment subscriptions, or service discounts.

Our internet experts leveraged proprietary data and real-world customer feedback to evaluate Netcrawler internet, analyzing their coverage, cost, and plan options. We considered plan-specific elements, including perks, premium data allowances, and upload/download speeds. After performing extensive research, including customer feedback, we compared Netcrawler to other comparable ISPs (Diallog, Virgin Plus, and Fido) in order to place Netcrawler's services in context.
