Best Value Internet Plan:
Shaw Fibre+ 300

 Editor's Pick
WhistleOut Rating:

The best value internet plan available from Shaw is the Fibre+ 300 plan with 300Mbps download speeds and unlimited data cap.

Why we love it:

The Fibre+ 300 plan gets you the best of Shaw at the lowest price. It includes nearly all the same features as Shaw’s flagship “Gig” deals, but you save $180 each year compared to the 1Gbps plan while still enjoying unlimited data each month.

Got gamers or remote workers in the house? Response time is among the fastest in the west, with upload speeds up to 100Mbps—fantastic when you’re backing up files or hosting an HD Twitch stream. Although download speeds are limited to 300Mbps, that’s far more bandwidth than most Canadians use. And if you haven't yet cut the cord, bundling Total TV with your Shaw internet plan is only another $50 per month.

Plan Pros:
  • Fast downloads and uploads
  • Premium bundling options
  • Unlimited data
Plan Cons:
  • Still quite expensive
  • Some Shaw Mobile bundling deals are better with Fibre+ Gig
How to Get a Better Deal with Shaw
Internet customers in British Columbia and Alberta also get up to six free By the Gig phone lines on Shaw Mobile. These plans include unlimited nationwide talk, text, and data at only $10 per gigabyte.

Bundling with Shaw Mobile is great value if you don’t use more than a few gigs on your mobile phone each month. Unfortunately, customers east of Alberta can't yet subscribe.

Upgrading to the Shaw Mobile unlimited data plans gets you a discounted rate of $45/month. However, the Fibre+ Gig plans offer a further reduced rate of $25/month, so upgrading your home internet results in a cheaper overall bill.

Best All-inclusive Premium Plan:
Shaw Fibre+ Gig and Total TV

 Editor's Pick
WhistleOut Rating:

The plan with the most to offer is the Shaw Fibre+ Gig and Total TV bundle, which saves you $50/month or more when you also subscribe to Shaw Mobile.

Why we love it:

There’s just no substitute for telling people you’re on gigabit internet. Take it from us, it’s incredibly difficult to max out this kind of raw download speed. This is welcome for families who stream 4K shows on more than one TV while also surfing social media and playing games online. There’s still bandwidth left over for all those smart thermostats, light bulbs and other IoT gadgets in your home.

Shaw is a cable company first, and the Total TV package is incredible value. Regularly $95/month, the comprehensive IPTV channel package only costs $50 on top of your monthly internet bill. The included BlueCurve TV service features PVR recording capabilities plus the ability to connect 4K televisions wirelessly, and the BlueCurve app lets Shaw customers watch live or recorded shows while away from home.

Monthly subscribers also get up to six By the Gig cell phone plans for $0/month each. Unlimited wireless data plans are an even better deal with unlimited data (25GB of fast LTE) starting at only $25/month. That’s unlimited data for cheaper than many basic talk-and-text plans in Canada!

Plan Pros:
  • Ultra-fast download speeds
  • Save hundreds of dollars each year by bundling services
  • Take your TV on the go with BlueCurve and a $25 unlimited mobile data plan
Plan Cons:
  • Very expensive, but you're getting a premium service
  • Upload speeds are not as fast as Telus
  • Shaw Mobile not available to customers outside B.C. and Alberta
What’s the Fastest Shaw Internet Plan?

Shaw offers Fibre+ Gig 1.5 with 50% faster download speed than the next level down, but it’s also almost 50% more expensive. In our opinion, it’s the best plan, but not the best deal.

Best Low-Cost Internet Plan:
Shaw Fibre+ 10

 Editor's Pick
WhistleOut Rating:

The lowest-cost option with Shaw is the Fibre+ 10 plan, which provides reliable internet connectivity and sufficient download speeds for most online applications.

Why we love it:

Internet access is an essential service in the 21st century. Gone are the days of cheap dial-up plans, but Shaw’s Fibre+ 10 is still a good option for those who need basic internet connectivity. It’s fast enough for basic browsing, video chats, online learning and even streaming Netflix. We recommend signing up for two years to save $10/month and protect yourself against rate hikes.

Even though it’s far cheaper than other Shaw internet plans, you’ll still get a lot of perks. The modem rental is included in the price, and so is standard network security software. Get up to six free By the Gig mobile phone lines from Shaw Mobile, or upgrade to an unlimited data wireless plan for just $45/month. You can access over 100,000 Shaw Go WiFi hotspots in cafés and restaurants across Canada for free internet.

What's Missing? Even though Shaw includes a lot of great features in this basic plan, there are some limits you need to know. The upload speed is only 1Mbps, which could negatively affect video conferencing if there are a lot of people connected at once. There’s a data cap of 150GB per month, which is good enough for most casual internet users unless you watch a lot of Netflix, Disney+ or YouTube. Watching just 1 hour of Netflix on an HDTV each night can use up more than half of your monthly data.

Plan Pros:
  • Far cheaper than Shaw's other
  • Reliable fibre-optic connection
  • Wi-Fi router included
Plan Cons:
  • Speeds are too slow to qualify as "good internet"
  • Video chats are limited to low quality
  • 150GB data cap too low for avid Netflix watchers

Which Shaw Internet Plan Should I Get?

Shaw offers more home internet tiers than most Canadian internet providers. If you’re overwhelmed by your options, first write down how you currently use your internet and what's your current download speed with Shaw. How many computers, mobile devices, smart TVs and video game consoles do you have? How much time do you spend streaming shows and movies on a typical weekend and weeknight?

Shaw lets you upgrade your internet to a new plan even if you’re still on a two-year contract. WhistleOut can help you understand what’s a good internet plan so you can decide if and when to take advantage of an upgrade. In general, we recommend you start with a plan that suits your needs right now, then level up when you need more speed.

About Shaw Internet Plans
Even though Shaw offers some of Canada’s fastest internet speeds, there are affordable options that won’t break the bank and still include a lot of nice perks. Shaw provides fibre-optic service to more internet customers in western Canada than Telus—everywhere that Shaw offers internet service, there’s a fibre-optic network. Even though copper cable brings it into your home, 99.9% of the journey is on fast-as-light fibre-optic. This means you can opt for a cheaper plan and still get all the perks of western Canada’s fastest and most consistent internet.

Every Shaw Fibre+ plan includes:
  • Modem rental
  • Basic network security software
  • Unlimited access to Shaw Go WiFi hotspots across Canada
  • $10/month discount when you subscribe to the 2-year ValuePlan
  • $25-$45/month discount when bundled with Total TV (depending on internet plan)
  • Up to six free basic mobile phone lines with discounted rates on unlimited wireless data plans (B.C. and Alberta only)

Most Shaw internet plans include unlimited data downloads each month, but if you want to save some money, look for a cheaper plan with a data cap.

Shaw Internet Bundles

Service bundling is one of the easiest ways to save money and manage all your monthly telecom services on one bill. In addition to home internet, Shaw offers:

Shaw Television Bundle

The same lines that carry your internet also deliver cable TV. The Shaw Total TV service includes over 100 channels for $95*/month. Bundle it with any Fibre+ broadband internet plan (except the basic Fibre+ 10 plan) and save $20-$45 each month. Total TV includes the new BlueCurve TV service, which enables DVR and live recording services, support for streaming services including Netflix, and watching TV on the go with the BlueCurve app (mobile data may be an additional cost).

Even though it’s not widely advertised, Shaw’s Limited TV plan includes basic network channels like CBC, CTV, Global, CityTV and a dozen others in full HD. It’s already priced low at $25/month, so there’s no bundling discount. There are also no bundling options for Shaw Direct satellite TV—a popular option for rural Canadians.

* Prices accurate at time of writing.

Shaw Home Phone

There are no bundling options for Shaw home telephone service, and with prices starting at $40/month, it’s probably not a good deal for your needs. There are some useful add-ons—including cheap long-distance talk time to eastern and southeast Asia—but most customers should instead take advantage of Shaw Mobile for their telephone needs.

Shaw Mobile

Even though it recently launched in 2020, Shaw Mobile offers Canada-wide coverage leveraging the Freedom Mobile network. Existing Shaw internet customers in British Columbia and Alberta can get up to six free (yes, FREE) cell phone plans with unlimited nationwide talk and text. Unfortunately, Shaw subscribers east of Alberta can’t subscribe to Shaw Mobile at this time.

Pay-per-use data is cheap at $10/gigabyte, and discounts are available on unlimited data plans, too. You need to provide your own phone or buy one from Shaw, but it’s still one of the best deals in Canada—and we know mobile deals!

Home Connectivity

No matter which Shaw internet plan you choose, you get a WiFi enabled router with Wi-Fi 5  included with your monthly fees. If your internet has trouble reaching some parts of your home, you can order one or more Fibre+ WiFi Pods to fill in the gaps. Each one costs $199 (or $10/month)—about the same as retail WiFi boosters you’ll find at Best Buy, but these ones come backed by Shaw technical support.

Every Shaw internet plan includes basic network security with a subscription to McAfee for Windows that protects your computer against viruses, malware and spyware. For an additional $6/month, Shaw blocks remote access to smart devices in your home, monitors your connection’s threat level, and upgrades your McAfee licence to include Mac and mobile devices.

Every Shaw plan we've outlined is strong, fast, and capable. But, that doesn't mean that they're completely immune to outages. If you run into a service disruption, check our Shaw outage guide for more information on how to check your connection status.

Best Shaw Internet Plans: Recap

As a full service telecommunications company, Shaw offers discounts when customers bundle television, home phone and mobile phone services.

  • Best Plan Overall: Shaw Fibre+ 300 is cheaper than Shaw’s premium gigabit plan, but still includes premium perks like fast upload speeds, unlimited data and huge bundling discounts.
  • Best all-inclusive family plan: Shaw Fibre+ Gig & Total TV & Shaw Mobile has all your telecommunications needs on one bill with hundreds of dollars in savings, but you need to live in B.C. or Alberta to unlock all bundling options.
  • Best Low-cost Internet Plan: Shaw Fibre+ 10 brings reliable internet to your home at a more affordable price. However, the monthly data cap is too low if you rely on streaming services like Netflix or Crave for your television entertainment.
