Lucky Mobile plans
Lucky Mobile’s numerous prepaid plans offer customers opportunities to grab 4G data, reliable coverage, and unlimited talk and text on the cheap. We’re impressed with the range of plans and the affordability of its service.
What we like
4G data on Bell's nationwide network
Lucky Mobile offers inexpensive 4G data on Bell’s large nationwide network. We especially like the value of the $37 Unlimited Canada-wide Calling Plan, which offers 80GB of data and unlimited talk and text. If you want the most 4G data available, the Unlimited Canada-wide & US Calling Plan provides of data along with unlimited talk and text to both Canada and the U.S.
Several plans for different needs
Lucky has a plan for every kind of prepaid customer. The $25 Unlimited Canada-wide Calling Plan offers unlimited talk and text plus 2GB of data at 3G speeds, making it a good fit for users who just need basic connectivity. The Unlimited Canada-wide Calling Plan is a great match for average users, offering of 4G data and unlimited talk and text. Customers looking for a plan that allows for streaming and gaming on the go want the Unlimited Canada-wide Calling Plan, which provides unlimited talk and text and of 4G data.
No long-term commitments
All Lucky Mobile plans are month-to-month. You never get locked into a long-term contract. If you’re unhappy with the service or find a better deal from another carrier, you’re free to leave at the end of the month.
What we don't like
Limited smartphone options
If you’re looking to pair a new smartphone with your new Lucky Mobile plan, your options are limited. Lucky also doesn’t offer financing for phones, meaning you have to pay outright if you grab a phone through the carrier. The phones Lucky does offer are basic, low-cost phones, including the Samsung Galaxy A03s for and the Motorola Moto G Pure for .
No family plans
Shared plans offer families the best savings on cell phone plans. Unfortunately, Lucky Mobile doesn’t give you the option to add additional lines to any of its prepaid plans. That doesn’t mean you need to turn to the Big Three if you need the value that comes with a family plan: Koodo, Freedom Mobile, and Cityfone all offer shared plans to cover your household without breaking the bank.
Lucky Mobile coverage

Lucky Mobile vs. Public Mobile
Public Mobile operates on Telus’ large 5G and 4G networks, offering prepaid plans at 5G and 4G speeds. The nationwide plan with the largest data allotment is the Unlimited Canada-Wide Talk + Text + . In Quebec, though, Public is the best bet, offering a massive chunk of 5G data through the Unlimited Canada-Wide Talk + Text + plan.
Despite the great plans, most Canadians will be disappointed to hear that Public doesn't offer phones with their plans. Overall, we recommend most Canadians go with Lucky. If you’re in Quebec, though, the obvious choice is Public Mobile.
- 4G data on Bell’s nationwide network
- Numerous prepaid plans for different needs
- No long-term commitments
- Limited smartphone options
- No family plans
- Massive 5G and 4G data allotments in Quebec
- Cheap monthly payments
- Limited options outside of Quebec
- No new phones
Lucky Mobile vs. Chatr Mobile
Chatr Mobile provides prepaid plans at 4G and 3G speeds on the nationwide Rogers network. The best Chatr plan is the $34 Nationwide + US Talk, Text & 4G Data Plan, which offers unlimited talk and text and 10GB of 4G data. The carrier’s larger nationwide data plans top out at 3G speeds. Meanwhile, its cheapest options are $10 a month more expensive than Lucky. Chatr does offer some strong plans for residents of Quebec, like the $50 Nationwide Talk, Text & 4G Data Plan, but the plans for the rest of the continent are unfortunately limited.
Like Lucky Mobile, Chatr doesn’t provide many options for pairing a smartphone with a new plan or offer financing, leaving you to pay outright for a new phone. The best available option from Chatr is the Motorola Moto G Play for .
Lucky Mobile is the clear winner here. Its varied plans, prices, and data allotments make this choice a no-brainer.

Methodology: How WhistleOut rates cell phone plans
WhistleOut evaluates phone plans based on the following criteria:
- Price & value: Not all cheap plans are “bad,” and not all expensive plans are worth it. We look at everything a plan includes and compare it both to other plans from the same carrier, as well as similar plans from competitors in the market, to determine whether the value is consistent with the price.
- High-speed data: Also called “premium” data, this is how much data you get at full 4G/5G speeds before they can or will slow down. The more guaranteed high-speed data the plan includes, the better experience you’ll generally have—but there’s also usually a limit to how much you actually need, and we ensure that you’re not overpaying for data that will go unused.
- Coverage & network reliability: The breadth of each carrier’s 4G LTE and 5G networks determines your reception and service. Particularly in the case of 5G, some carriers offer far more robust coverage than others, which affects how their phone plans perform in different parts of the country.
- Plan extras and perks: In addition to the basics—talk, text, and data—some plans throw in freebies like hotspot allowances, cloud storage, entertainment subscriptions, or service discounts.
Our mobile experts leveraged proprietary data and real-world customer feedback to evaluate Lucky Mobile. We compared the MVNO by analyzing their coverage, cost, and plan options. We considered plan-specific elements, including perks, premium data allowances, and mobile hotspot allocations. After performing hands-on testing and extensive research, including customer feedback, we considered whether the carrier meets the needs of most people and compared it to competitors.
