It’s been rolling out internationally since the end of May, but the heavily anticipated LG G3 has yet to find its way to Canadian customers. But finally, LG has announced that the company’s new flagship handset will be available to its ever-patient Canadian customer base from August 1 onwards.

LG has confirmed it will be sending the G3 to several Canadian carriers, including Rogers Wireless, Bell Mobility, MTS, SaskTel and Videotron. You’ll also be able to pick up the handset through retailers Tbooth, The Source, Wireless Wave, Wireless Etc. and Wow Mobile on all supported carriers at each store.

Unfortunately for Telus customers, the G3 won’t be available on this carrier’s plans. It’s also unlikely that the device will be making its way to Wind Mobile.

The G3’s August 1 release date fits snugly into the all-important ‘back to school’ shopping period, making the handset an appealing buy for college students getting ready to head back to classes.

LG has optimized this version of the G3 for the Canadian market, with the device able to support LTE on 2600MHz and 700MHz spectrums, as well as AWS. In a coup for customers, the Canadian version of the G3 will support wireless charging, an option apparently not available to customers in the US.

About the G3

The LG G3 is the update to the company’s flagship G2 smartphone, and promises an improved camera, simplified interface, and a brilliant display. LG has been talking up the G3’s 5.5-inch, 2560x1440 Quad HD display, which the company claims will give users ‘a true-to-life viewing experience’ with four times the resolution of regular HD screens.

The device is powered by a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor and will run Android’s newest 4.4.2 KitKat operating system. With a 13-megapixel camera with both Optical Image Stabilization + and LG’s new Laser Auto Focus, the LG G3 features 32GB of storage, 3GB of RAM and a microSD slot.

Pricing details for LG G3 have not yet been announced, but are expected to be confirmed by Canadian carriers in the next few weeks.
