Despite a barrage of government-sponsored warnings and changes in the law, way too many people not only use their phones while driving, but think it is safe to do so.
In the US, it is estimated that 9 people will die each day from a motor vehicle accident caused by someone being distracted while driving, and over 1,000 more will be injured. According to a 2011 survey conducted by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 69% of the teens they spoke to said they had used their phones while driving in the 30-days prior to responding to the survey.
So, a big part of the problem is that people (often teenagers) think they are safe when using a phone in a car regardless of the mounting evidence against it. To tackle this perception, Volkswagon used ad company Ogilvy created a unique cinema ad for audiences in Hong Kong to show movie-goers just how dangerous it is to be distracted by phones.
