Fido Tab Mini plans offer select midrange and low-end phones for $0 down and $0/month on top of most monthly plans. You need to sign a two year contract, but you get a new phone at no additional cost.

Every carrier is trying to make their deals unique as we head into Boxing Week. Fido, Koodo and Virgin Mobile often feature identical prices and devices for sale. All three offer their best plan prices when you bring your own device (BYOD), but adding at least $10/month on 2-year plans can get you a new phone for $0 down. This week, Fido has created an even cheaper option.

Fido Tab Mini plans only apply to a few select phones. They sell outright for up to $370, but when you commit to any smartphone talk, text and data plan for two years then you get the phone for free. Available phones include:

All five phones are basically free on even Fido's cheapest smartphone plans. For example, if you were to bring your own phone to Fido, then you can get unlimited Canada-wide talk and text with 2GB of data for $45/month. That plan is monthly and you can upgrade, downgrade or switch carriers at any time. However, if you sign a 24-month contract then they'll give you one of those five phones for $0 upfront and it still costs you only $45/month.

For the best deal, we recommend the refurbished Samsung Galaxy A50. It features a huge 6.4" screen, long-lasting battery and powerful cameras. Fido certifies all pre-owned phones, includes a 12 month warranty and they qualify for extended Device Protection plans starting at $9/month. If you want something more compact (or just don't trust refurbished phones) consider Motorola's G7 Play. It features a clean Android user interface, 5.7" display, fingerprint security and expandable storage.

The Alcatel Go Flip is a flip phone that also lets you access basic web browsing, email and more through a mobile data connection. If that's the model you're looking at then skip this deal. You can buy it upfront for $85 and get a $35/month talk and text plan. You'll be able to switch to another carrier at any time if you find a better price on a monthly plan.

Fido Plan Benefits

Fido plans include Data Overage Protection which pauses all data transfers if you hit your monthly data cap. You won't get any surprise charges if you use up your monthly data. All plans also include 1 hour of unlimited data five times per month. Fido XTRA perks unlock exclusive deals and contests for customers to save you even more money. Sign up online and Fido will waive the $35 activation fee and credit your account with $65. This deal is available anywhere in Canada that Fido operates.
