Navdy is a startup that’s starting to get some attention thanks to an ad by the increasingly-prolific Adam Lisagor. The gadget is a transparent heads-up display (HUD) that lets you view and interact with your phone’s content without taking your eyes off of the road.
The Navdy device links to your iOS or Android device and is controlled by a combination of gestures and voice commands. You can make and receive calls or texts, get directions, tweet, and even manage your music without needing to touch your phone.
Most importantly, though, is that it’ll make your car look super futuristic.
Not all good news
It’s not all sunshine and rainbows. For one, Navdy isn’t even out yet. You can pre-order now for the early 2015 release, which is actually a good idea because you get a serious discount.
Those that order now get 40% off the eventual full price. With that discount, the Navdy will still run you US$299 before shipping. Delivery within the US is a further $20, and to Australia it’s $30.
So you won’t get it soon and you won’t get it cheap, but it’s still a very cool and safe way to stay connected while you’re on the road.
