Your thoughts and feelings on the odious term ‘BendGate’ aside, it was undeniably a scandal for Apple last year when some of its iPhone 6 and 6 Plus units were found to be bending in their owners’ pockets.

Eager to avoid a second spate of negative press, Apple has reportedly revisited the drawing board for a newer, stronger design in the upcoming iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.

This rumor comes from none other than Lewis Hilsenteger himself, the man who threw fuel on the media fire last year by uploading a YouTube video to his Unbox Therapy channel, demonstrating how easy it is to bend an iPhone 6 Plus by hand.

Hilsenteger claims to have the back plate of the upcoming 6s, against which he pits the same part from the current iPhone 6. The new case is almost twice as thick in the area where the 6 and 6 Plus were more likely to bend, suggesting an intentional redesign to address the issue.

Other than this small internal change, the overall look of the new case is identical to the old. It’s a few tenths of a millimetre taller, and surprisingly 2g lighter. There’s nothing the average user might notice, except for perhaps a definite lack of subtlety in the choice of gold shade.
