Using the screenshot feature on your iPhone is a simple way to capture what’s on your screen. Whether you want to save a recipe for a family member, a price before you go shopping, or a meme to send your friends, you can do it in virtually no time at all.
The methods for taking a screenshot will vary depending on your iPhone model. All iPhones with Face ID (like the iPhone 15) use the same method, while iPhones with Touch ID and a side button (like the newest iPhone SE) use their own. Let’s walk through how to take screenshots on your iPhone and where to find them on your device after you take them.
How to take full-page screenshots in iOS 17
The new iOS 17 features bring a lot to the table. One of the most ingenious is the ability to screenshot an entire article from the internet with just a few clicks. Here's how to take a full-page screenshot in iOS 17:
- Launch Safari.
- Go to the page you want to save.
- Press Home and Sleep / Wake at the same time, like you would normally do for a screenshot. (If you don't have a Home button, press power and "volume up" at the same time.)
- A preview of the screenshotted article will appear in the lower left of your display.
- Tap on the image, then tap Full Page in the upper right corner.
- You can save the article as a single image by pressing Done.
Taking screenshots on iPhones with Face ID
You can use this screenshot method for all iPhones that include Face ID. This list includes:
- iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max
- iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max
- iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max
- iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max
- iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max
- iPhone X, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max
Here’s how to take the screenshot:
- Press the side button and volume up button simultaneously.
- Release both buttons and a small preview of the screenshot will appear in the bottom left corner of your screen.
- Swipe the preview to the left to dismiss or tap to edit it.
The edit feature allows you to markup the screenshot with digital pen tools, crop it to a smaller size, or directly share it via Messages or other social apps. Editing a screenshot can be useful for highlighting a key piece of information or cropping out unnecessary areas of the image so you only share what you want to.

Taking Screenshots on Touch ID iPhones with a Side Button
If you’re using an iPhone with Touch ID, your screenshot method is slightly different. The following iPhones will take screenshots using the Home and side buttons:
- iPhone SE (2022), iPhone SE (2020), iPhone SE (2016)
- iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus
- iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus
- iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus
Follow these steps to get a quick screen capture on an iPhone with Touch ID and a side button:
- Press the Home button and side button at the same time.
- Release both buttons and a thumbnail of the screenshot will pop up in the bottom left corner.
- Tap the image to open and edit it, or swipe away to dismiss.
The Back Tap Method
There is another way to take screenshots on any iPhone 8 and newer without pressing buttons. Instead, you tap the back of your iPhone on the Apple logo. Here’s how to setup that feature:
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down to Accessibility.
- Select Touch.
- Choose Back Tap at the bottom of the list.
- Set either the Double Tap or Triple Tap to Screenshot.
This method is useful for people who are using a big phone, those with less dexterity than others, or when you don’t want to miss something by accidentally locking your phone. We recommend choosing the triple tap option to prevent accidental double taps resulting in unwanted screenshots. With that said, it is still possible to take accidental screenshots with the triple tap option enabled.
There are other options available for the back tap function that may be worth exploring if you find them useful. These options include replacements for volume up and down, scrolling, iPhone shortcuts, and more.
Where to find iPhone screenshots
Screenshots on iPhones will automatically make their way to the Photos app. To view only your screenshots, click on Albums > Media Types > Screenshots. If you use another photo app, like Google Photos, your screenshots will also appear there.
