Article Summary
Fido offers great individual plans and they offer even more features when you add more phone lines to an account. Their old 10% off additional lines promo ended recently, but speak to a Fido customer representative to see what else they can offer.
Fido usually places well in annual ratings for best customer service in Canada. While there are no Family plans that let you share data, Fido can still be a good choice when combining multiple phone lines on one account.
Fido's wireless service runs on parent company Rogers' mobile network. With coverage from coast-to-coast, Rogers boasts coverage for 97% of Canadians. There are zones without coverage, but mostly in northern (and sparsely-populated) parts of the provinces. There's no coverage in the territories. WhistleOut Canada has an extensive guide covering national coverage by Rogers for the Fido mobile network.
Fido Data Share Plans
There are no data sharing plans on Fido. All plans are designed for individual users and include 500 minutes or unlimited nationwide minutes with several data pack options. Fido originally targeted a younger demographic. They have since found that Canadians of all ages appreciate their nationwide coverage, wide selection of new smartphones, and lower rates than the major national carriers like Rogers, Bell or Telus.
Adding phone lines to one account results in fewer bills to manage, but there are a couple other advantages over larger mobile carriers:
- Large data packages at low cost
- Discount on additional lines added to your own account
Low Price on Big Data
Even though Fido uses the same network as Rogers Wireless, they usually offer lower prices for more data. Most plans will knock $10/month off your bill if you bring your own phone. Even if you're looking for something new then Fido has one of the largest selections of smartphones in Canada. Many can be bought for as little as $0 down but your best buy will be getting a phone on a Small or Medium Tab plan where you may be able to put your tab on a plan as low as $50/month.
On top of some of Canada's best prices on talk, text and data plans, customers can get Fido's exclusive Pulse +5 Hours of Data. Using the Fido My Account app customers can turn off the meter and download at full speed for 60 minutes. The data you uses won't count against your monthly cap. It's a great way to burn away an hour watching YouTube videos without worrying about overage fees.
If you live in Quebec, Manitoba or Saskatchewan you may find different pricing. Strong competition in those regions result in different (and often better) deals.
Tablet Plans on Fido
One account for multiple lines gets you one of the best data deals for LTE-enabled tablets in Canada. In fact, they require you to have an existing postpaid mobile plan before you can sign up 4GB data for only $15/month. As a result, there's no discount applicable when you add a tablet plan to your existing smartphone account.
There's a wide selection of iPads and Android tablets for as little as $0 upfront on 2-year plans. WhistleOut Canada has an exclusive guide with information on Fido data plans and tablet plans.
Discount Program: Bonus Data and New Phone Rebate
Fido already offers plans with lots of data, but if you're looking to combine more than one phone line on a bill then Fido might include a few bonuses on the new phone line. Certain conditions apply, but when WhistleOut spoke to Fido Customer Service we were told that additional talk, text and data Pulse plans can receive:
- 2GB bonus data to the additional phone line
- $10/month credit for the first year when buying a new phone on contract
The $10 monthly credit is a good strategy when buying a new phone on contract. You save $120 over a two year contract and with that bonus data you can choose a smaller data plan than you might otherwise need, saving you another $10/month.
Your results may vary, but this is the offer
Fido had when we called.
Additional phone line plans may change, so reach out to a Fido customer care representative to find out what they can offer. If you've already been with Fido for a while, they may have exclusive loyalty offers that aren't advertised!
